They maintain the highest levels of accreditation and pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest trends in ophthalmology.

  • Dr. Anthony Girardi received his Bachelor of Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his Medical Degree from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. He then interned at Nassau County Medical Center in Internal Medicine. His training in Ophthalmology was at Downstate State- Kings County Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Girardi received his Board Certification in Ophthalmology.

    Dr Girardi is a professor of ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate, and has been training residents in ophthalmic surgery since 1984. He is the Chief of Ophthalmology at North Shore University Hospital at Glen Cove. He is also Chief of Ophthalmology at Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn and Local Director of the Downstate Ophthalmology Residency at that hospital. Dr. Girardi has been a part of Ophthalmology Associates of Glen Cove, PC for over 25 years. His practice is in Comprehensive Ophthalmology with focus on the medical and surgical treatment of eye disorders, including cataract, glaucoma, and cornea/external disease.

    He has performed thousands of ophthalmic surgeries including small incision Cataract extraction with IOL implantation and laser surgery. Dr. Girardi believes that each patient is a unique individual and that treating each individual with respect, integrity and compassion leads to the establishment of a trusted partnership between physician and patient.

    Dr Girardi has been listed in Castle Connelly, "Top Doctors" since 1998, cited multiple times as "Top Ophthalmologist" by the Consumers Research Council, and received the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. He is a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Girardi is fluent in Italian and Spanish. Dr. Girardi is married and has three children.

  • Dr. Jonathan Wesson completed his Bachelor of Science at Yale University and then obtained his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He continued his medical training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he performed an internship in Internal Medicine.

    He obtained his ophthalmology training at State University of New York Brooklyn, where he received the SUNY Downstate Research Award for his extensive research studies. After completion of his training, Dr. Wesson obtained his Board Certification in Ophthalmology and joined Ophthalmology Associates of Glen Cove.

    The focus of his practice is comprehensive ophthalmology, with an emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of external disease, cataracts, and glaucoma. Dr. Wesson also served as a professor of ophthalmology for residents at SUNY Downstate and Montefiore Medical Center, where he trained resident ophthalmologists in the principles and techniques of state-of-the-art cataract and laser surgery.

    Dr. Wesson is a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the New York State Ophthalmological Society. Dr. Wesson has been cited in multiple years by the Consumers Research Council of America as a "Top Ophthalmologist." Dr. Wesson has lectured to the New York Academy of Medicine and presented and published research at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology's national conference on topics including diabetic eye disease and cataract surgery.

    Dr. Wesson's philosophy on patient care is one of compassion, and he believes in forming a team with the patient where the patient becomes an active member in their own health care. Dr. Wesson is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Wesson is married to dermatologist Dr. Karen Wesson and has three children.
